Cranberries Most Americans associate cranberries with Thanksgiving turkey. They are often classed as "New World" food. Botanists and linguists confirm several varieties of berries, from different parts of the northern temperate regions, have been called "cranberry. Native North Americans had yet another vocabulary developed for this fruit.
Aug 10, Kendra G. History lovers Recommended to Kendra G. This is because I am not a history lover. Reading the first four chapters was required for school, and I was supposed to debate the statement, "Our present federal government is a name, a shadow" by Henry Knox in 1, words.
Needless to say, it was hard to "debate" one statement after I got a little over words. But if anyone wants to read it, here it is in the spoiler below. So, I decided to start by breaking this quote down.
Federal means having a system of government in which multiple states are a union but are still independent in internal matters. This is what the government was when Henry Knox said this statement inand it still is.
A shadow of what it could potentially and should potentially become. And let me be honest: I agree with him. In that time, the federal government was not what it could be, not what it should be, and not what it would become.
Some, most likely they who crave power, would disagree with this statement. After all, the way I see it, the less organized it is and the harder it is for the lower ranked people to figure things out, the more power the people at the top can have in the confusion.
This is not right, because a government should have organization and proper contemplation, and it should not be a disorganized mess. I can prove this is not a good choice to make out of the events that followed: People were out doing whatever they pleased, such as the states having too much inner power and becoming rather corrupt, as said here in A Brilliant Solution: In the aftermath of the Revolution, real political power resided in these state governments.
Animated by a heartfelt ill will and rivalry, state legislators missed no opportunity to exploit the weaknesses of their neighbors…States with natural advantages made every effort to abuse those without them. Virginia and South Carolina cheerfully squeezed what they could out of hapless North Carolina.
Meanwhile, New York and Pennsylvania, both blessed with major ports, imposed steep duties on a goods destined for neighboring states.
Each state retained individual sovereignty and operated under its own constitution. Congress struggled to hold the states together, and interests often clashed.
There was hardly a governing figure. The states had their own little chaotic governments. I would assume some people did not want to be organized and have an actual, efficient government, because they enjoyed the free rein they had, and did not want to lose it for example, criminals.
This was easily proven a bad idea to entertain as it quickly soaked in that they no longer had the protection of the British government when it would have been helpful. No army to ride with while exploring, no protective escort through the seas.
No privileges that came with being part of Great Britain at all, as said here in A Brilliant Solutionz:CHAPTER ONE The Call for a Convention "Our present federal government is a name, a shadow" HE YEAR WAS It was the tenth anniversary of the Declaration Of Independence and the third year.
